The Importance of Activities
By offering a variety of activities throughout each day, our residents are able to feel a sense of personal worth and value. These people all led productive lives prior to their dementia diagnosis. They still have memories of making contributions and our daily activities help to keep them mentally stimulated. At The Creeks, we focus on what the resident is still able to do and to help he or she find enjoyment within their cognitive capacity. Participation also gives the staff the opportunity to praise their accomplishments and successes.
Types of Activities
Many of our activities are focused on sensory awareness. Music stimulates the memory through listening, singing, and rhythmic movement. Singing or listening to songs enables the person to experience positive feelings. Art activities are forms of communication and expression that go beyond words and language.
Walking and visiting in our herbal gardens arouse the senses of aroma and visual beauty.
Activities also add to the companionship between our residents. Whether cheering for a fellow bowler or helping to toss the balloon, there is a lot of positive encouragement and interaction between our participants. And sometimes residents get a lot of pleasure just watching from the sidelines if they don’t feel like joining in themselves.
Having Fun
Our activity programs create opportunities for the residents to laugh and smile. Repetitive, enjoyable activities and exercise help to nurture positive feelings. Take a closer look at our residents pictured here or drop by and see for yourself.
